putting yourself into your work... :o)

I am working on blocks for a quilt top for Carol. (Carol is the friend doing the custom quilting on the trio's birthday quilts, in exchange for me piecing some quilt kits of hers.) This quilt is called *Bread and Butter* -- the block is called *Squirrel In A Cage*. I really like these fabrics and the blocks! There are triangle 4-patch blocks still to make, and then I can get it all put together... :o)

Ok, so on to putting yourself into your work... :o) There have been numerous times I have gotten my fingers too close to the needle while sewing... Who hasn't?!?! Well, today, I did the BIG boo-boo! Yep, the needle went THRU my finger and nail! ACK! After I got the machine turned off, I was standing there thinking, OK, how do I get my finger out?!?! I had to get the little screwdriver and undo the screw that holds the needle in! Then get Jimmy to go potty and wake Jim up, to take me to the ER. I probably could've taken myself, but... :o) So if you aren't squeamish, go ahead and scroll down and learn from my boo-boo... :o) If you don't want to see the pics, I understand! :o)

In the pic below, you can kinda see that the THREAD is still in the needle, THRU my finger!

All is well now... Antibiotics and pain pills... :o) They did take x-rays and luckily, the needle did not chip the bone... Lesson learned! But oh, how I want to get back to sewing! Maybe tomorrow when my finger isn't so tender! :o) And maybe I should remember, you don't have to put yourself into your work quite that much! :o)
P.S. Carol -- no blood on the block I was sewing! Shew! :o)))

Oh my!!!!! The heck with the block, I do hope your finger doesn't hurt too terribly much, but I am sure it hurts like the devil!!! Don't worry about my quilt top for pete's sake, just worry about taking care of your finger and give it plenty of time to heal. A quilt is sure not worth that accident! This is the first I have checked in on here since getting back from vacation, I am sure glad I did!! Hugs to you and get feeling better soon!!!!

I put a needle through my nail and finger a while back, but compared to your adventure -- YOU WIN!!! Lordy, lady!!! you were so lucky! My stomach is rolling, just looking at those photos.
Take it easy and take all the antibiotics -- don't save some back for another time. I know how people do that!
This is one adventure you don't want to repeat. Stay safe.

How it is possible to make that ?
Entirely thru the finger ? Without photo I can't believe that .

OWIE!!! But what a great war-wound...and great sewing story :) I have probably broken my nail and grazed my finger over a dozen times, but I think I'm going to be MUCH more careful after reading your story!
Hope it heals quickly so you can get back to your gorgeous squares :)

Oh, ouch! Ouch! I have sewn through the side of a finger but not through the nail.

I have seen another blogger sewing blocks like yours. You are doing a very good piecing job.

forgive me ... I had to close my eyes and scroll down to the comments. :o)
Oh boy Angela, you were so much more calm than I would be. I would most likely suffer from tunnel vision and hopefully not black out. :o)
You sure have a great arrangement with Carol. :o) I love bartering ... as you know. :o)
Hoping that your week is off to a great start!!
Sincerely ~ Trish

I did that once...when I was about 10 years old...while happily treadling my Mom's treadle sewing machine! Never had a tetanus shot, though. And never blogged it. roflol
